Starting in January 2000, the designing and cutting of the lino blocks began as a dalliance and, as time went by, became synonymous with my journey as I camped on beaches, in the outback, or by rivers. My acquaintance with the cards became an intimate friendship. A deep sadness fell over me as I finished designing and cutting the last card, as if I were farewelling an old friend.

 

When I finally returned to the area that I call home on the far north coast of New South Wales, I spent four months printing the cards. I called upon my skill as a poster artist to screen print an average of six colours on each card before overprinting the lino blocks that I'd cut on the road, I ended my self imposed solace, almost two and a half years after I had begun my "dalliance".
